"Here in the Pacific Southwest Region headquarters of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, we have been piloting the use of CartoPac for vegetation mapping. We found limitations and inefficiencies using some of the other GPS mapping software and when we heard about CartoPac we decided to give it a try. The CartoPac staff has been extremely helpful and after a brief training tutorial, we were ready to use the software in the field. We are currently using CartoPac on several Trimble devices as well as with a laser rangefinder and have found that our data collection workflow has improved tremendously. One of the biggest improvements for us is the ability to quickly view large background images on our devices, which we need to access in the field. CartoPac Way is our process for delivering enterprise to mobile field asset solutions.

The objective CartoPac Way is to deliver to our customers quality field asset solutions that meet or exceed expectations, on time and on budget.

CartoPac Way Phases:

Project Initiation: Formation of Project Team, Develop Project Plan, Management and communication processes. Deliverable – Project Team and Project Plan.
Assessment: Develop understanding of current state field asset environment, objectives of new solution, primary processes, users, imagery, technological environment, weaknesses and new solution objectives. Deliverable: System Assessment and Key Future State Design Criteria.
Solution Design: Develop Solution requirements including mobile device screens, imagery, applications to run on mobile devices, database modifications, and security plan. Deliverable: Design for New Solution.
Solution Development: Develop and test solution. Deliverable: Future State Field Asset Solution.
Pilot: Field test of Solution before deployment. Deliverable: Final modifications within scope of project.
Deployment: Develop deployment plan, conduct pre-deployment integration test, Develop training plan, and train users. Deliverable: Solution operating effectively in the field.
Support: Introduce users to CartoPac support program. Deliverable: Instructions on CartoPac support resources.

Communication with our customers throughout the project life cycle is maintained. Phase Reviews are conducted with our customers at the conclusion of each Phase. The result – solutions that work at deployment time.
